About Ed Callahan, Ph.D.
Parenting Coach, Marriage and Family, Grief and Loss Support
I have a Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy and over 24 years of private practice, child and adolescent-specific treatment, personal development coaching and parent coaching experience. I have developed and led a therapeutic boarding school for students with special needs. My practice has supported many families across the country work through difficult parenting situations, relationship challenges and helped restore trust and collaboration. I have an intense desire to help parents create environments in their home that foster love, support, and collaboration. My goal is to support parenting styles that invite children, adolescents and young adults to find and pursue their passions and develop specific skills that prepare them to be successful, independent adults in today’s world. If every option and effort have been exhausted at home and out-of-home treatment becomes necessary, I can assist parents in finding the appropriate treatment milieu for their son or daughter and guide them through the entire process including a successful return home.
Over the past several years, I have embarked on the study and practice of yoga, meditation and the art of mindfulness. This has profoundly influenced my personal life and has significantly augmented my life’s work and practice. I find great satisfaction in supporting others find their true purpose and helping instill the confidence and courage needed to pursue their dreams and be true to themselves in whatever form that takes.
From the beginning of my practice, I have always had a heart for those experiencing grief, loss or any type of trauma. My gift is creating space where individuals, families and groups are able to be nurtured during the healing process and given permission to express themselves openly, without shame or embarrassment. I know the challenges of supporting those you love as they go through the grieving process, and I also hope to provide support and guidance to those who are supporting others.
If you feel that you and /or your family could benefit from my practice and experience, I look forward to meeting you and I am excited to be a part of your process. I see clients in my office in central San Diego, conduct in-home coaching with families locally and nationally, and I am available for skype and phone sessions as desired.
